Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our divorce document preparation service.

About the Service

What is MyDivorcePapers.com?

MyDivorcePapers.com is an online divorce document preparation service. We help you complete all the required court forms for an uncontested divorce in all 50 US states and Canada. We are not a law firm and do not provide legal advice.

How long have you been in business?

We have been helping people navigate the divorce process since 2002 — over 15 years. We have served more than 1.2 million customers nationwide.

Do you provide legal advice?

No. MyDivorcePapers.com is a self-help legal document preparation service. We cannot provide legal advice. If you have complex legal questions, please consult a licensed attorney in your state.

How is this different from hiring a divorce lawyer?

A divorce attorney typically costs $5,000–$15,000 or more. Our service costs $299 and is ideal for uncontested divorces where both spouses agree on all major issues (property, custody, support). We prepare all the forms — you file them yourself.

Eligibility

Is my divorce eligible for your service?

Our service works best for uncontested divorces — where both spouses agree on property division, child custody, child support, and spousal support. If your divorce is contested (you and your spouse disagree), you likely need an attorney.

Do you serve all 50 states?

Yes. We prepare divorce documents for all 50 US states, US territories, and all Canadian provinces.

Can I use your service if I have children?

Yes. We prepare all necessary child custody, parenting plan, and child support documents in addition to the divorce petition.

What if my spouse lives in a different state?

You file in the state where you (the petitioner) live, as long as you meet that state's residency requirement. Your spouse's location typically does not affect where you file.

The Process

How does the process work?

1) Answer our secure online questionnaire. 2) We prepare all your court-specific divorce forms. 3) Download, print, sign, and file at your local courthouse. The entire process takes as little as 20 minutes online.

How long will it take to get my documents?

Your completed documents are typically available within 1–3 business days after completing the questionnaire.

What do I do with the documents after I download them?

Print all documents, sign where indicated (your spouse must also sign), and file them at the courthouse in your county. Each document package includes step-by-step filing instructions.

Do I have to go to court?

For an uncontested divorce, you may only need one brief court appearance (or none at all in some states). Your document package includes instructions on what to expect.
